3.4 Balance Sheet Exam Style Questions for IB Business Management
This pack contains 5 exam style questions for balance sheets on the IB Business Management course (3.4 Final Accounts). The pack is designed to imitate the style in which questions are presented in IB Business Managers past papers. Questions are presented with business case studies with a range of questions including definitions, calculating missing figures and construction of balance sheets.
How can I use these questions with my students?
Project onto your whiteboard. Each question is presented on one page so can easily be displayed on a white board for whole class demonstration and participation. Each answer sheet also fits onto one page for easy projection onto a whiteboard.
Print out double-sided for independent practise. Each question and answer fits onto one page so can be printed double sided for students to practice and self-check. The mark schemes have been simplified so students can easily check their own answers.
Upload to your VLE or Google Classroom. Individual question pages can be extracted and uploaded to a Google Classroom for homework and revision.
How can this pack help with differentiation strategy?
Finance can be a unit that splits a classroom in terms of ability. Some students grasp these skills quickly and others need a lot more support. By providing the students in your class with resources where they can practise and self-check, your time can be freed up to support students who need your help.
How much time should I give to students to answer these questions?
The mark allocation for each question is 10 marks. The general guidance on timing for exams in IB Business Management is 2 minutes per mark. Students should therefore be encouraged to complete each of these questions within 20 minutes.
How similar are these questions to actual IB Business Management exam paper questions?
Across the 5 questions, the pack aims to replicate the different styles of questions seen in IB Business Management past papers. Each question has a case study which includes qualitative and quantitative data as per the exam paper questions for IB Business Management.
Each question is split into multiple parts in the style of Section A on paper 2. Typical questions include; define (2 marks), calculate with workings (2 marks), construction (4 marks), comment (2 marks) and explain (2 marks).
Why do I need this pack as an IB Business Management teacher?
It can be challenging to find enough past paper exam questions for finance on the IB Business Management course. Using this pack, you can provide opportunities for your students to practise key skills from Unit 3: Finance and Accounts without using up the limited past paper questions available for each skill.
Past paper questions combine content from different areas of the course. This can create confusion when using past papers to help students practise their finance skills. These questions have a narrower focus so they can be used to practise and consolidate the skills and understanding from your current lesson.
